Submitted by haley.molyneux on Tue, 07/12/2016 - 2:27pm

This award recognizes an individual who goes above and beyond in their volunteer duties, taking the initiative to exceed expectations. Monique's contributions to the Indigenous Opportunities Committee have been exemplary, due in no small part to her perseverance and dedication.

Our department is proud to acknowledge our talented and accomplished graduate students, like Monique, and to highlight her service within our Community. This award speaks of her outstanding commitment to creating and supporting an inclusive and caring community, which is one of the goals to which we aspire at the University of Calgary.

Monique informed us that she works very hard to bridge the gaps between the Indigenous and non-Indigenous community in so many areas in Calgary, and this is just one of the tables that she volunteers with.

In her acceptance speech, she said, "I am humbled to be acknowledged, but I am just one person, and there are many other colleagues who work unnoticed- and who put the community above themselves."

Congratulations Monique and best wishes for your continued success.
