CMF @ Esker: “Sweaty Zuckerberg and Cool Computing”

Submitted by krystle.monahan on Thu, 01/24/2019 - 10:29am

The Department of Communication, Media and Film is thrilled to announce that we are hosting an event in collaboration with The Esker Foundation, Calgary:

“Sweaty Zuckerberg and Cool Computing” by Dr. Mél Hogan

In 2010, Mark Zuckerberg was on stage at D8: All Things Digital conference being asked about Facebook’s privacy policies. The topic proved difficult for him as the company CEO – he quickly broke out into a terrible sweat. That image is the focus of this presentation: a drenched Zuckerberg under the media spotlight, espousing the benefits of an open world connected by cool computing.

"Writing Things We’ve Never Written, Thinking Things We’ve Never Thought” by Crystal Chokshi

What happens when we let computers choose what we say? In a letter to her daughter, Crystal Chokshi reflects on the loss inherent in deferring to software the struggle for words and meaning.

The event is by registration only: eskerzuckerberg.eventbrite.ca
