The RSC has officially named the incoming 80 members of The College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists, only two of which are from the University of Calgary. As a Department we think this is an amazing achievement and are very excited and proud that Dr. Charlene Elliott is one of them.

Now that it has been officially announced, the Department of Communication, Media and Film is proud to congratulate Dr. Charlene Elliott on her upcoming induction to the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars.  Those named to the College represent the emerging generation of scholarly, scientific and artistic leadership in Canada. Needless to say, Dr. Elliott’s selection for this esteemed body is a fabulous achievement. I am sure that everyone within our Department will join me in congratulating her on this prestigious appointment.

Dr. Charlene Elliott has advanced research in food marketing, media and food literacy. Her work explores the ways in which food marketing, policy and both consumer perceptions and actions can factor in the prevention of disease and the promotion of health. Elliott is a highly prolific researcher committed to engaged public scholarship that has helped to improve the health of Canadian children. For example, her research on food marketing and packaging has resulted in new policy recommendations and opened up new areas of inquiry related to baby foods, food packaging, and food literacy in the media.
